On St. Patrick’s Day every schoolkid in America knows it’s time to wear green or get pinched! There are many such traditions around this day celebrating all things Irish, most of which don’t have anything to do with Ireland, or the real St. Patrick, but are still fun to celebrate.
The color green is, in fact, a powerful symbol. In ancient Ireland, the shamrock or “seamrog,” (pronounced “seamroy” in Gaelic), symbolized the rebirth of spring. During the 1800s, it was a symbol of rebellion against the British and to wear it on a military uniform was a crime punishable by death. Thus the “the wearing of the green” became a powerful point of national pride. And of course, the color is Ireland itself, with its rolling hills of verdant green!
Green is a soothing, serene color for the bedroom, and at Cuddledown, our buyers have found bedding, sleepwear and home décor to satisfy those who love the color of the Irish! And you can save the green on our smooth sateen! Of course, if green isn’t your thing – we also have all the colors of the rainbow – just no pot of gold!
Sláinte mhaith (“good health”) and enjoy the holiday, whether you’re wearing green or not!
