Caring for your linen bedding can be a simple procedure; it doesn’t have to be treated in any special way, but we recommend you take certain measures to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
Some things to remember when cleaning your linen bedding:
- Follow the manufacturer’s care instructions, washing/drying instructions can vary based on the stitching or the dyes used
- Try your cleaning method on a hidden area to make sure it’s the right method
- Never use bleaches or detergents with color brighteners, these can discolor and weaken your linen sheets
- Hand or machine wash with like colors, use mild detergent like our Fine Fabrics Detergent, in lukewarm or cold water on a gentle cycle, always be sure to rinse your linen to remove any soapy residue. You can wash in hot water but remember heat weakens fibers
- Don’t over load your machine, the more water the better
- To minimize the natural wrinkling properties, you may hang them on a line to dry or machine tumble dry on a low temperature or a wrinkle release setting, remove and fold the sheets promptly when dry. You may iron warm, if desired
- Try to remove any stains immediately after they are formed, as they get more difficult to take out the longer they set. We have a helpful article with quick steps to help minimize damage from stains, How to Remove Stains
Linen is a soft yet durable fabric created from the fibers of the flax plant and gets softer with every wash; it doesn’t pill stretch or loose shape. It’s hypoallergenic, moisture wicking and adjusts to your body temperature to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter which makes it a great choice for any time of the year.

l. How long do Belgian Flax Linen sheets last? A long time, I hope! Very expensive! Beautiful, too.
2. Does it make sense to use cold water to wash and cool dry cycle to dry?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Linen is very durable and will last a long time with proper care. You are correct — Wash in cold water and line dry or machine dry at a low temperature.
Truly wonderful tips and suggestion I will immediately take into account when washing all linens such high quality durable fabric with natural characteristic white but not too white
I appreciate the tip to try cleaning in a hidden area of linen to make sure that the cleaning actually works. My linen needs to be cleaned, and I am thinking of getting bed linen laundry services to take care of it. When cleaning, I’ll make sure that no dangerous materials such as bleaches or detergents will come in contact my linen.
