If you’re looking for a fun, unique weekend activity, why not head to Maine’s Shaker Village for a tour of their beautiful herb gardens. Located near New Gloucester, the Sabbath Day Lake Shaker Village is the last remaining Shaker community in the U.S., with just three members as of last year. Despite its small size, the Shaker Village remains active with workshops, hikes, and festivals throughout the year. During the summer, herb garden tours are offered each Tuesday and Thursday. Led by herbalist Betsey-Ann Golon, the tour covers the history of herb cultivation, harvesting, processing and usage at the village.
